ABUJA, Nigeria, July 22 (African News Digest) – Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of being associated with allegations of fraud and financial misconduct amid controversies surrounding Nigeria’s 2026 federal budget.
Frank made the allegation in a statement on Wednesday, citing what he described as recurring controversies over government spending and budgetary allocations.
His comments followed allegations of inflated and questionable provisions in the 2026 budget, including a reported N12.8 trillion allocation for the Service Wide Vote, N8 billion earmarked for churches and mosques, and an alleged N1.3 billion allocation linked to the controversial Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, had previously raised concerns over some of the disputed allocations and called for greater scrutiny of government spending.
Reacting to the controversy, Frank argued that repeated questions surrounding public expenditure were eroding confidence in the Tinubu administration and causing Nigerians to lose faith in the integrity of public institutions.
He alleged that the government had failed to demonstrate sufficient accountability and had not done enough to ensure that public officials accused of corruption face appropriate scrutiny and justice.
“The recent revelations and controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget have further reinforced the widespread perception that this administration represents one of the most troubling governments in Nigeria’s recent history,” Frank said.
He added that the controversies appeared to reinforce what he described as a pattern of allegations involving financial misconduct and questionable governance.
Frank further alleged that the administration was perceived by some Nigerians as shielding individuals accused of corruption rather than strengthening oversight mechanisms and ensuring accountability.
The Tinubu administration has faced increasing political criticism over budgetary allocations and alleged financial irregularities, with opposition figures calling for greater transparency and independent investigations.
