Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop relying solely on white-collar jobs after completing their national service, encouraging them instead to embrace entrepreneurship and acquire practical skills for self-reliance.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers' Workshop in Uyo, the governor said the current economic realities require young graduates to become job creators rather than job seekers. He encouraged corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC's Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to equip themselves with skills that can generate sustainable income.
Eno also called on employers to provide corps members with quality mentorship, conducive workplaces, and the support needed to help them develop professionally and contribute meaningfully to national development. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving the welfare and service experience of corps members posted to Akwa Ibom State.
The governor stressed that graduates should see their service year as an opportunity to build experience, discover their talents, and prepare for life beyond NYSC, rather than waiting indefinitely for government or corporate employment.
