RIVEMIS: Step-by-Step Guide to Registering Schools on Rivers’ Digital Education Platform

The Rivers State Government has commenced the implementation of the Rivers State Education Management Information System (RIVEMIS), a digital platform designed to improve the management of public and private schools across the state.

Coordinated by the Rivers State Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) Unit, the platform serves as a centralised system for the collection, validation, storage and utilisation of educational data.

According to the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, said during the inauguration of the platform that RIVEMIS would strengthen education planning, improve data management and enhance regulatory oversight.

The digital initiative also supports the state’s directive requiring all private schools to register on the official digital platform or risk sanctions for operating outside the approved education management system.

One of the major benefits of RIVEMIS is the creation of permanent digital academic records for students, making school transfers easier while reducing cases of lost records, transcript alteration and other challenges associated with manual documentation. The platform also enables government officials to monitor compliance with minimum standards for infrastructure, staffing and school operations, while automating examination registration and candidate management.

Below are the steps for registering schools on the RIVEMIS platform:

Step 1: Create an Account and Obtain an EMIS ID

School administrators should visit the official RIVEMIS portal and register under the “Unregistered Schools” section by completing the required institutional information. After successful registration, the school will receive a unique Education Management Information System (EMIS) Identification Number and an activation code via email.

Step 2: Complete the School Profile

Using the assigned EMIS ID, the administrator should log into the portal and access the “View Activation Form” under the profile section. Schools are required to provide detailed information covering ownership, physical infrastructure, teacher qualifications and security facilities before submitting the profile for verification.

Step 3: Upload Student Information

Once the institutional profile has been verified, schools can populate their student database through the “Students” module. Administrators may add students individually or download the approved Excel template to upload multiple student records at once.

Step 4: Apply for School Approval

Private schools yet to receive government approval should proceed to the “School Approval” section of the portal to submit their applications. The platform enables inspectors from the State Quality Assurance Services (SEQAS) to review compliance documents electronically and monitor each school’s approval status.

Step 5: Register Candidates for Examinations

For final-year students, administrators should navigate to the “Examinations” section, select the appropriate academic session and register eligible candidates. Schools can also pay examination fees through the integrated payment system, print payment receipts and upload Continuous Assessment (CA) scores directly to the state’s central education database.

The Rivers State Government says the implementation of RIVEMIS marks a major step towards digitising education administration, improving accountability, ensuring accurate data management and enhancing service delivery across public and private schools in the state.
