Mrs. J. E. Bolarinwa and the Legacy of Alafia School, Ibadan

Existing historical records do not definitively establish Alafia School as the country's very first private school.

Nevertheless, Mrs. J. E. Bolarinwa remains an important figure in Nigeria's educational history. At a time when few women owned and managed educational institutions, she demonstrated remarkable vision and entrepreneurship by founding a school that would serve generations of Nigerian children.

Her work reflects the broader movement of indigenous educators who expanded access to education in the years leading up to Nigeria's independence, complementing the efforts of government and missionary schools.
