KYIV, Ukraine - Ukrainian authorities have confirmed that Anastasia Berezovskaya, a 39-year-old Ukrainian national wanted in connection with the recent bombing targeting businessman Vadym Yermolayev in Monaco, has been found dead near Kyiv with gunshot wounds to the head.
Berezovskaya had been the subject of an international manhunt after the June 29 bombing in Monaco, which injured Yermolayev, his partner and a child. Interpol had issued a Red Notice seeking her arrest.
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) said the suspect entered Ukraine on July 1, where investigators traced her communications with family members and two men—one a former law enforcement officer and the other an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Military Directorate.
According to investigators, both men are suspected of links to the attempted assassination in Monaco and allegedly transferred money to Berezovskaya through cryptocurrency wallets and bank accounts.
During the investigation, an officer attached to Ukraine's military intelligence agency (GUR) reportedly admitted to killing Berezovskaya alongside another suspect. Authorities said the second individual acknowledged failing to report his contacts with her, the financial transfers and other related activities to his superiors, claiming he acted independently.
Investigators also discovered a basement room described as a "torture chamber" during a search of the former law enforcement officer's residence. The suspects are currently being held on allegations of conspiracy to commit premeditated murder.
Ukrainian authorities said they are working closely with officials in Monaco and the Prosecutor General's Office as investigations continue to identify all individuals involved in the attempted assassination and the circumstances surrounding Berezovskaya's death.
The case has attracted international attention as investigators pursue leads spanning multiple jurisdictions following the high-profile attack in Monaco.
