A 26-year-old man named Ebenezer Frimpong has been sentenced to one month in prison by the Kwadaso Circuit Court in Ghana after pleading guilty to attempting to steal a police armoured vehicle.
According to the report, a police driver, General Lance Corporal Joshua Denkyi, was driving the armoured vehicle to a workshop. He briefly stopped by the roadside to buy medicine from a pharmacy. While the officer was inside the pharmacy, Frimpong entered the left-behind truck and drove off.
Police officers launched a hot chase and successfully intercepted and arrested him shortly after.
Before passing judgment, Presiding Judge Jephtha Appau ordered a psychiatric evaluation to verify if Frimpong was mentally fit to stand trial. Following a medical report confirming his stability, Frimpong pleaded guilty to the charges.
The judge handed down a lenient one-month jail term, noting that the short sentence was given because Frimpong is young and did not waste the court's time with a prolonged trial.
