A 63-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving at high speed into the driveway of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s $26 million East Hampton mansion, crashing into and causing significant damage to the property's security gate.
According to police, the man failed to stop at the closed mechanical gates before the collision. Authorities, however, said there is no evidence he intentionally targeted the celebrity couple.
Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunne revealed that the suspect appeared "confused" at the scene and has no criminal history. Earlier, he had reportedly stopped at another nearby home looking for a woman, but was informed she did not live there.
“He did not make any threats or mention names of the residents. It could just be a chance he picked that house if he was having a medical issue.”
The suspect was taken to Stony Brook Hospital after complaining of pain, while his vehicle was impounded. Police have filed criminal trespass and criminal mischief charges and continue to investigate the incident.
Authorities also confirmed that no weapons, threatening notes, or evidence suggesting the man knew who lived at the property were found.
It remains unclear whether Beyoncé and Jay-Z were at home when the crash occurred, as Jay-Z is currently on tour after recently performing in New York.
