JAMB Not an Examination Body, Says Registrar Ishaq Oloyede

Abuja, Nigeria – The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has reiterated that the board is not an examination body but an educational assessment and admission agency.

Oloyede explained that JAMB's primary mandate is to facilitate admissions into Nigeria's tertiary institutions, rather than functioning solely as an examination body.

He emphasized that the board's responsibilities extend beyond conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), noting that its core role is to assess candidates and coordinate the admission process into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions across the country.

The JAMB Registrar made the clarification while addressing stakeholders, stressing the need for a proper understanding of the board's statutory responsibilities in Nigeria's education sector.
