OSOGBO, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will conduct a mock accreditation exercise on Saturday, August 1, 2026, ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The exercise is aimed at assessing the commission’s operational readiness and testing the efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the governorship poll.
In a public announcement signed by Ariyo Rufus, Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, on behalf of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, INEC said the exercise would simulate Election Day accreditation procedures.
The commission, however, clarified that no voting would take place during the exercise.
According to INEC, the mock accreditation will be conducted at selected polling units across the three senatorial districts of Osun State.
In Osun Central, the selected local government areas are Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun and Boripe.
For Osun East, selected polling units in Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Oriade and Obokun local government areas will participate in the exercise.
In Osun West, the exercise will cover selected polling units in Egbedore, Ede North, Ede South and Ejigbo local government areas.
INEC urged registered voters whose polling units have been selected for the exercise to participate, stressing that only voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be accredited.
“This exercise is designed to test the functionality and efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to Election Day. There shall be no voting during the exercise,” the commission stated.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election, while appreciating Osun residents for their cooperation throughout the electoral process.
The commission also assured political parties, the media, civil society organisations and other stakeholders of its readiness to work with them to ensure a smooth electoral process.
