I will take you down without a second thought ~ Burkina Faso’s Traore warns challengers

Burkina Faso's military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, issued this explicit warning to members of his own inner circle.

The fiery declaration, "If anyone screws up, I'll take you down without a second thought. There are no strongmen around me," was spoken directly to community leaders in the northern town of Ouahigouya. The warning marks a sharp escalation in internal political tensions within the ruling military junta.

The authoritarian leader's comments come amidst widespread rumors of a growing power struggle and infighting among Burkina Faso's top military brass.

Traoré justified his uncompromising stance by stating, "There can't be two captains on one ship."

The tension focuses heavily on the unexplained public absences of the junta's second- and third-in-command. Oumarou Yabre, the head of intelligence, and Farouk Azaria Sorgho, the prominent junta spokesman, have both been absent from public view. Security details around their properties have reportedly been slashed, and local security sources allege targeted abductions of key figures by Traoré associates.

Security checkpoints have multiplied around the presidential palace in Ouagadougou as Traoré continues to consolidate absolute power, having previously dissolved democratic institutions, banned political parties, and extended military rule.
