A 19-year-old 500-level student of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), Rebecca Kambai, has died after a hit-and-run driver struck the motorcycle she was riding in Bauchi State.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, shortly after she returned home for the holidays.
A family source said Rebecca had forgotten some belongings at school, which her friends later sent to Azare. She and her brother went on a motorcycle to collect the items from a driver at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel.
On their way back, as they attempted to turn into their neighbourhood near the Police Officers' Mess along the Bauchi–Jos Road, a Sharon minibus rammed into their motorcycle and sped off.
Rebecca was thrown off the bike, suffered a fractured skull, and died on the spot. Her brother sustained injuries.
An FRSC report confirmed the crash occurred around 5:15 p.m., involving two people. The injured brother was taken to ATBUTH, while Rebecca's body was deposited in the hospital mortuary. A motorcycle, a hair stretcher, and a pair of shoes were recovered from the scene.
Rebecca's mother, Mrs. Doris Kambai, described her as her last child and favourite a brilliant and joyful daughter who had transformed her life. She said she accepted the loss as God's will, thanked everyone for their support, and prayed for God's comfort and reward over them in their own times of need.
