ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria's Chief Justice, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has urged newly appointed judges to uphold the highest standards of integrity by rejecting unsolicited gifts, avoiding lavish celebrations and ensuring the swift, impartial delivery of justice.
Addressing the new judicial officers, the Chief Justice stressed that judges must remain independent, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Kekere-Ekun warned against accepting gifts or favours capable of compromising judicial independence or eroding public confidence in the courts.
She also advised the judges to avoid extravagant ceremonies and lifestyles that could undermine the dignity of the judiciary, urging them instead to focus on delivering justice fairly, promptly and without fear or favour.
The Chief Justice emphasized that the credibility of Nigeria's judicial system depends on the conduct of its officers and called on the new judges to uphold the rule of law while maintaining the confidence of the public.
