According to a statement posted on his official X account, human rights activist and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted to reports claiming that the Anambra State Government is building a second airport away from public attention.
Odinkalu said the lack of openness surrounding the project has created concerns and urged the government to provide answers about its purpose and implementation.
Governor Charles Soludo has come under public scrutiny after reports of the alleged airport project circulated widely on social media. The reports triggered debates over transparency, accountability, and the source of funding. While the state government initially rejected the claims, subsequent findings reportedly confirmed that the project exists.
Commenting on the issue, Odinkalu said the truth became clear despite what he described as attempts by the government to silence those investigating the matter. He also praised political analyst Kingsley Ubani for remaining persistent in seeking accountability and continuing to question the government despite the pressure.
Odinkalu wrote: “After prolonged and repeated official denial, it now turns out that Anambra State is building a secret 2nd airport. Despite the determined efforts of the govt to bully him, Kingsley is keeping them honest.”
