The Benue State Government through the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has taken over 1,200 hectares of land at Mbatyu/Ukpekpe, Mbayion District, opposite the Dangote Cement Factory in Gboko for overriding public interest and its deployment for government businesses.
The takeover is in line with the statutory powers vested in the Benue State Government under the Land Use Act of 1978, which vests all land within a state in the Governor, who holds it in trust for the people.
The acquisition is also backed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which empowers the government to compulsorily acquire property where such acquisition is in the public interest.
The 1,200-hectare property has been acquired for overriding public interest and will be deployed in the service of the Benue State Government for government business and other strategic engagements aimed at advancing the state's development objectives.
The company is warning that the land is now the property of the Benue State Government therefore members of the public, private individuals and corporate organisations agencies are cautioned not to trespass or carry out any unauthorised activities on the property.
All affected persons and the general public are to steer clear of the land, stressing that any occupation, development or use of the property contrary to the government's directive would be regarded as trespass and treated in accordance with the law.
BIPC is committed to safeguarding government assets and ensuring that state-owned lands are preserved and utilised for projects that promote economic growth, investment and the overall development of Benue State.
