A woman has warned the public about the practice of adding red colour dye to blended dried pepper being sold in the market.
According to her, she bought dried pepper and took it to be ground into powder. Upon arrival at the grinding point, she noticed a polythene bag containing the same type of pepper mixed with a bright red dye.
When she asked why the dye was added, she was told that it enhances the red colour of the pepper and also increases its quantity, allowing sellers to make more profit.
She further revealed that the same red dye is reportedly being added to cooking palm oil sold in the market.
The woman advised people to grind and process their pepper themselves whenever possible, instead of buying already blended pepper whose preparation they cannot verify.
