ABSU Begins Screening of First-Class Graduates for Automatic Employment as Graduate Assistants

The management of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, has commenced the screening of first-class graduates for automatic employment as Graduate Assistants, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Alex Otti during the university's 30th to 32nd combined convocation ceremonies.

The screening exercise is for eligible graduates who have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme and is expected to precede the issuance of their employment letters. Graduates who are still serving or yet to begin NYSC will be screened after completing the mandatory service.

Governor Otti had earlier directed that all first-class graduates from the three convocation sets be retained as Graduate Assistants. He also approved postgraduate scholarships up to PhD level in any public university in Nigeria for the beneficiaries, provided they accept the teaching appointments. The opportunity was further extended to the best graduating students in each department with a minimum CGPA of 4.25.

About 38 first-class graduates from various departments are participating in the screening exercise and are expected to receive their employment letters upon completion of the process.
