The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is set to receive Her Excellency, Madame Monica Hage Geingos, the Third First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, and her distinguished delegation on a strategic courtesy visit to the University on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The visit forms a significant component of a six-day engagement programme in Ogun State and is expected to further strengthen educational, leadership, agricultural, and developmental partnerships across Africa. The delegation's visit to FUNAAB highlights the University's growing reputation as a leading centre of excellence in agricultural education, research, innovation, and sustainable development on the African continent.
During the visit, the delegation would be received by the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde where discussions would focus on FUNAAB's contributions to food security, agricultural transformation, capacity building, youth empowerment, and regional development. The visit would also provide an opportunity to showcase the University's cutting-edge research initiatives, world-class academic programmes, and strategic interventions that continue to position it among Africa's foremost specialised universities.
Madame Monica Geingos is a renowned African leader, lawyer, entrepreneur, and advocate for social and economic development. She served as the Third First Lady of Namibia from 2015 to 2025 and gained international recognition for championing youth empowerment, women's economic inclusion, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and good governance. Through the One Economy Foundation and other developmental initiatives, she has contributed significantly to improving opportunities for vulnerable populations across Namibia and beyond. Her influence continues to resonate across Africa as a respected voice on leadership, economic transformation, and sustainable development.
The delegation's itinerary also includes engagements with one of Africa's most distinguished elder statesmen, and former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, who served as Nigeria's Head of State between 1976 and 1979 and later as a democratically elected President from 1999 to 2007. Widely respected for his contributions to peacebuilding, governance reforms, agricultural development, and regional integration, Chief Obasanjo remains a leading advocate for sustainable development and leadership across Africa. Through the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), he has continued to promote leadership development, knowledge sharing, and the preservation of African history and culture.
Other engagements with the delegation include the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON; Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, HRM, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, HRM, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, selected institutions, as well as cultural centres within Ogun State. While these visits are designed to foster broader cultural and leadership exchanges, the visit to FUNAAB remains a key academic and developmental engagement of the programme.
