The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has revealed that many individuals have been reaching out to the party, expressing their desire to contest elections using its platform.
Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, on Monday April 6 2026, Usman explained that the Labour Party has been receiving numerous requests from politicians who see the party as a viable option for their ambitions.
She noted that while this interest is welcome, the party must remain careful in how it handles the process.
According to her, it would not be healthy for the Labour Party to prematurely restrict opportunities by zoning positions to specific individuals.
She stressed that democracy thrives when everyone is given a fair chance to compete, and that the party should avoid making decisions that favor one person over others.
Usman further pointed out that the best approach is to allow the political process to unfold naturally. She said that time will eventually reveal the right candidates who can represent the party and its values.
She said,
"Honestly, I don’t want to mention names, but I know there are quite a number of people who have been contacting the party and saying they would like to use the party’s platform to run.
