Former NERC Chairman, Sam Amadi, has explained why the impeachment move against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, may not succeed.
Speaking on ARISE TV, Amadi said the judicial process is Fubara’s biggest protection. According to him, the impeachment can only move forward if the state’s Chief Judge sets up an investigative panel, which he described as the key part of the process.
Amadi explained that the allegations against Governor Fubara are weak and do not amount to gross misconduct, which is required for impeachment.
He added that if the Chief Judge appoints a panel made up of fair and independent people, they are likely to conclude that Fubara has done nothing wrong since the end of emergency rule in Rivers State.
According to him, once the panel says the allegations are “not proven,” the impeachment process will automatically end. But if they say it is proven, then impeachment can continue.
Amadi stressed that the court and investigative panel remain Fubara’s “saving grace”, saying this is where the governor has the strongest chance of stopping the impeachment.
