Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized that peace remains the state’s most urgent priority, brushing aside criticism from his opponents with a remark that some reactions stem from a lack of understanding.
According to Daily Trust, the governor made the statement in Port Harcourt at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church while attending an interdenominational church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
According to him, his administration is focused on restoring calm and unity in the state, expressing confidence that divine guidance and intervention would ultimately bring about the peace Rivers State requires.
In what appeared to be a veiled reference to Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor Sim Fubara said: “When we were marking the New Year day, I said something, dog barks when they do not understand.
“The reason I do not complain is that, I know what I have, I’ve the Supreme, that’s God, I want you to relax, what’s important in this our dear state is peace, and we’ll get it.”
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been engaged in a prolonged political struggle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with the Minister.
As part of the ongoing tension, the lawmakers on Thursday served the governor with a third notice of impeachment within the past three years.
