Minister Nyesom Wike remained notably silent as stakeholders deliberated on ways to address the renewed political tensions following the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to The Vanguard, life in Port Harcourt largely continued as usual on Thursday, but an undercurrent of apprehension was evident. Some stakeholders reportedly engaged lawmakers, urging them to reconsider the impeachment process.

Sources gathered by Saturday Vanguard indicated that Governor Fubara, who is currently out of the country, has not yet been formally served with the notice and retains the support of key power brokers and APC leaders in the state.

Wike, who has historically been vocal—often using public events to critique Fubara—appeared subdued during his visit to Andoni Local Government Area yesterday as part of his “thank you” tour. Unlike his usual public demeanor, he spent only a brief time addressing the crowd and refrained from commenting on the impeachment proceedings.

Vanguard reported that observers noted the contrast between Wike’s current reserve and his earlier approach, which often included public displays of criticism, singing, and dancing at political gatherings. His measured silence yesterday underscored a departure from that style amidst the unfolding political developments.

However, it was said on Friday that the presidency and All Progressives Congress’ leaders had resolved to ‘save’ the governor once again. Vanguard reported that some sources claimed the recent comments of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu commending Fubara and recognising him as leader of the party in Rivers, has captured the mood of critical power brokers in the presidency.

Those said to be favourably disposed to Fubara include Imo State Governor and chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma and Transport Minister, Senator Dave Umahi.
