The Edo State Police Command has arrested a mother and a nurse over the alleged sale of a newborn baby boy for ₦1.4 million in the Uromi area of Edo Central.
Authorities revealed that the case came to light after a concerned citizen alerted the police, prompting detectives to apprehend Martina Dachung, the baby’s mother, along with Matron Ighalo Grace of Eguavon Medical Centre and another accomplice, Oha Promise, who were allegedly involved in facilitating the illegal transaction.
The infant was safely recovered by the police, and evidence of the ₦1.4 million payment was seized.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police confirmed that the command is committed to protecting children and tackling human trafficking and related crimes. The suspects are expected to face court proceedings as investigations continue.
