Morocco has officially activated the Barak MX air and missile defense system, developed by Israel 🇮🇱 Aerospace Industries (IAI), marking a major step in the modernization of its air defense capabilities.
The system is believed to be operational at a military site near Sidi Yahya el Gharb. Barak MX is a multi-layered defense platform designed to intercept drones, aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missile threats at short, medium, and long ranges.
Morocco signed the acquisition deal in 2022, strengthening defense cooperation with Israel following the normalization of relations in 2020. The deployment reflects Rabat’s focus on enhancing national security amid evolving regional and aerial threats.
This development positions Morocco among African and Middle Eastern states investing in advanced, networked air defense systems.
