The Lagos State Government has sealed a residential estate in Lekki Phase 1 for repeatedly flouting environmental regulations related to wastewater management.
The affected estate, located at No. 96B, Ladipo Omotesho Street, Lekki Phase 1, was shut down by officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. According to the agency, the action followed several warnings issued to residents, which were allegedly ignored.
LSWMO stated that the estate failed to comply with provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, particularly in the area of proper wastewater disposal. The agency also accused residents of obstructing its officials during previous attempts to enforce compliance.
Confirmation of the enforcement exercise was made public via a statement shared on the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.
The wastewater management authority urged residents across Lagos State to adopt safe and hygienic wastewater disposal practices, stressing that environmental negligence poses serious risks to public health and sustainability. It warned that any act constituting environmental nuisance would attract strict sanctions, including prosecution where necessary.
LSWMO further called on members of the public to support environmental protection efforts by promptly reporting violations to the appropriate authorities.
