The Federal Government of Nigeria has earmarked a cumulative ₦10.61 billion for the overhaul of engines on the Gulfstream G550 aircraft assigned to Vice President Kashim Shettima, according to an analysis of appropriation bills spanning 2024 to 2026.
The aircraft, registered 5N-FGW, received the largest single allocation among all engine overhaul projects within the Presidential Air Fleet, accounting for 55% of the ₦19.27bn total spent on engine maintenance under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Documents obtained and analysed by The Punch show a sharp rise in spending:
• 2024: ₦1.24bn (listed as NEW under project code ERGP31206170)
• 2025: ₦5.51bn (ONGOING — a 345% increase)
• 2026: ₦3.86bn (ONGOING)
Despite a reduction in 2026, the project remains active, with the vice president’s aircraft alone consuming more than half of all engine maintenance funds allocated to the Presidential Air Fleet over the three-year period.
The figures have sparked renewed public debate over government spending priorities, transparency, and the cost of maintaining executive assets amid ongoing economic pressures.
