Grammy-nominated singer Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has strongly criticised fans who compare Wizkid to his late father.
Seun made the statement during a recent Instagram live session, where he warned Wizkid FC to stop calling the Afrobeats star the “new Fela.”
According to him, comparing any modern artist to Fela is disrespectful and shows ignorance of Afrobeat history.
“Keep Fela’s name out of your mouths,” Seun said. “Calling Wizkid or any new artist the new Fela is an insult to my father’s legacy.”
He added that Fela’s influence, struggle, and music cannot be matched or replaced by any new-generation artist.
Seun also accused Wizkid fans of constantly dragging Fela into online arguments and music debates, saying it has caused unnecessary rivalry in the music industry.
He claimed that fan wars have made it difficult for some artists to collaborate peacefully.
Seun further said many fans compare artists because the music they listen to does not truly satisfy them.
“You can’t enjoy your artist’s music without comparison because, spiritually, you are not fulfilled,” he stated.
