Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez has said his team’s AFCON quarterfinal clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be very tough.
Mahrez spoke after Algeria defeated DR Congo to qualify for the quarterfinals. He said Algeria knows Nigeria very well and expects a difficult match.
According to him, anything can happen when both teams meet on Saturday.
The last time Nigeria and Algeria played at AFCON was in 2019, when Mahrez scored a late free kick that knocked the Super Eagles out of the competition.
Speaking to reporters, Mahrez said, “Nigeria? We know them well. The match won’t be easy.”
He also added that another dramatic late goal is possible, saying, “Anything can happen.”
