Algeria’s head coach, Vladimir Petković, has said his players were deeply saddened after losing to Nigeria at the AFCON quarter-final in Morocco.
Nigeria defeated Algeria 2–0 on Saturday, with second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, securing a place in the next round.
Speaking after the match, Petković said his players were devastated because they performed well throughout the tournament.
“Our players are disappointed and heartbroken after the game,” he said. “They played very well in this AFCON, but our journey has ended.”
The coach added that despite the painful exit, the team must remain focused as they prepare for future competitions, including the World Cup later this year.
