Sierra Leone Secures $300M for Its First Large-Scale Gold Mine

 
Sierra Leone is on the verge of a major economic breakthrough after securing $300 million to finally launch its first-ever large-scale commercial gold mine — the Baomahun Gold Project.

Located about 200 km east of Freetown in the Bo and Tonkolili Districts, the project spans a massive 124.27 km² and holds an estimated 60+ tonnes of gold valued at over $4 billion.

Expected annual production of 5 tonnes of gold

Estimated to generate a yearly revenue of $300 million+

It will create 900 direct & indirect jobs 

Production is expected to begin in 2026 with an average annual output of about 150,000 ounces, peaking at 201,000 ounces over a 12.5-year mine life
