Lara George: Pioneering Nigerian Gospel Artist and Music Executive


Lara George, born Lara George Bajomo on 23 June 1979 in Lagos State, Nigeria, is a celebrated Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, producer, and music executive. She hails from the family of Oluwole Bajomo and grew up in Lagos, where her early education took place at the prestigious Queen's College. She later attended the University of Lagos, earning a master’s degree in architecture, while simultaneously nurturing her passion for music.

George’s musical journey began on the University of Lagos campus, where she joined the university fellowship choir and became a member of the now-defunct music group, Kush. Her talent quickly gained recognition, and in 2008, she released her debut solo album, Forever In My Heart. The album featured the hit single “Ijoba Orun,” which propelled her to national prominence and earned her multiple awards and nominations, including the Voice of the Year award at the Nigeria Music Awards in 2008.

Over the years, Lara George has amassed numerous accolades for her contributions to gospel music. She won Best Vocals Performance (Female) at The Headies in 2010 and was named Best African Female Gospel Artiste at the Africa Gospel Music Awards in London in 2011. She has also been honoured as the Trailblazer of the Year at the Africa Gospel Music Awards and received nominations for the Kora Awards as Best Female Artiste West Africa. Her performances have graced prominent events such as The Experience Concert, the Calabar Festival, and the Greenbelt Festival in the United Kingdom. Notably, she became one of the first Nigerian artists to be featured on BET International and served on the BET Voting Academy for two consecutive years.

Beyond her music career, Lara George is an accomplished business executive. She serves as the Vice President of SoForte Entertainment Distribution Ltd., Nigeria’s first structured entertainment distribution company. In this capacity, she has established over 250 outlets across Nigeria, partnering with major businesses, including IAS/TNT courier services and popular fast-food chains, to distribute musical products nationwide.

On the personal front, Lara George is married to Gbenga George, a legal professional and music entrepreneur. The couple resides in Alpharetta, Georgia, in the United States, and they are blessed with two children, Adeoba and Tiaraoluwa. Balancing family life, music, and business, Lara George continues to be a trailblazer in gospel music and entertainment in Nigeria and beyond.
