Kenya and Uganda Agree on Major SGR Breakthrough

Kenya and Uganda have finally reached a historic agreement on the key standards needed to complete the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Mombasa to Kampala.

After years of delays caused by different technical designs, both countries have now harmonised standards, meaning:
-Same engineering designs
-Compatible trains and signalling
-A single seamless rail network

This agreement was reached after a three-day meeting in November, bringing together engineers and government officials.

The SGR will become a fast, modern transport corridor connecting the Indian Ocean to Uganda.

It will cut transport time and cargo costs for businesses.

It boosts East African trade, jobs, and economic growth.

It strengthens regional unity under the Northern Corridor project.
