Nigeria's House of Representatives has called for urgent intervention following the detention of a military aircraft and its crew in Burkina Faso.
The Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso on December 8, 2025, while en route to Portugal for routine maintenance. Despite being on an authorized ferry flight with proper documentation, both the aircraft and its crew remain detained.
Ekiti State lawmaker Rufus Ojuawo, who sponsored the motion, emphasized that the landing was purely precautionary and followed international aviation safety protocols. He clarified the aircraft was not on any operational, intelligence, or surveillance mission.
The House has resolved to engage officials from the Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministries to secure the crew's release and address what lawmakers describe as a growing diplomatic concern.
Parliament urged the Federal Government to leverage regional bodies like ECOWAS and the African Union to resolve the matter swiftly, warning that prolonged detention could damage bilateral relations and threatens the welfare of detained personnel.
