Dangote reveals how Ooni Of Ife cleared 19 Shrines to enable factory Project

Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has shared a remarkable account of how the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, played a crucial role in enabling the construction of one of his company’s factories.

Speaking in a video shared by The Cable on X during the launch of the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s ₦100 billion annual Education Support Programme, Dangote recounted that contractors were initially unable to commence work because over 19 shrines were located on the project site.

According to him, fear and spiritual concerns kept everyone away — until the Ooni stepped in.

“When we got there, there were over 19 shrines at the site. Nobody was able to go near there to do anything. But Ooni went there, stood there and said, ‘Remove all of them. Let the gods come and talk to me.’”

Dangote praised the Ooni’s courage and leadership, noting that his intervention made it possible for construction to proceed without further obstacles.

The revelation has since sparked conversations online about traditional authority, leadership courage, and development in Nigeria.
