Former United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has highlighted Africa’s pivotal role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues, including climate change and sustainable development.
Speaking on Thursday at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 in Owerri, themed “Unlocking Imo’s Economic Potential: Partnership, Investment, and Innovation”, Ban Ki-moon reflected on his previous visits to Nigeria.
“My visit to Imo State today reminds me of the enormous sufferings and difficulties that African people, particularly people in Imo State, should have overcome because of colonisation and subsequent war, as the Korean people did, surmounting its painful and turbulent history.”
The former UN chief emphasized that Africa’s experiences and resilience position the continent to contribute solutions to global challenges, urging investment, innovation, and partnerships to unlock its full potential.
