Gunmen on Thursday attacked the convoy of former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA.
According to his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige was not in the convoy when the shooting happened.
A police officer in the pilot vehicle was shot, and the attackers who allegedly wore police and army uniforms took his rifle and uniform.
Sadly, a woman who was recording the incident on her phone was shot dead.
A nearby shop owner who rushed out to see what was happening was also hit by bullets. He lost a lot of blood but has undergone treatment and is expected to recover.
The escort team leader also had surgery and is stable. No police officer died in the attack.
Dr. Ngige, after being briefed, expressed sadness over the death of the woman and promised that those injured will receive proper medical care.
The Anambra State Police Command has not yet released an official statement.
