New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Nigeria is miles ahead as America’s top African source of crude oil this year.
Between January and August 2025, Nigeria exported $2.57 billion worth of crude to the United States — totaling 33.23 million barrels.
This represents 55% of all African crude that entered the U.S. during that period.
Out of 60.75 million barrels imported from the continent, more than one in every two barrels came from Nigeria.
No other African producer even came close — with Angola, Libya, Ghana, and others trailing far behind.
This strengthens Nigeria’s position as a key supplier in the global energy market and highlights the country’s continued relevance in U.S.–Africa trade relations.
Nigeria remains Africa’s crude oil powerhouse.
