Students of the University of Ilorin are going through one of the toughest transport crises in years, with many spending 3–4 hours daily on shuttle queues under intense heat.
Parents and students have described the situation as “unbearable,” “primitive,” and “dangerous to health.”
Some have fainted. Others say their academics and mental health are suffering.
Zainab, a 200-level student, said:
👉 “I leave home by 6:30 a.m. and still miss my 8 a.m. class. I fainted here last week. This is not life.”
Final-year student Samuel added:
“We get home around 7 p.m. every day. No strength left to read.”
Students with health conditions aren’t spared either — Azeez, who has an ulcer, said the long waits are “killing” him slowly.
The Vice Chancellor has acknowledged the crisis, assuring students that more buses — including 100 electric vehicles — are on the way, following a recent park relocation done for security reasons.
UNILORIN students are pleading for urgent action.
