On Saturday's afternoon, notorious armed bandits leader, Kachalla Dan Sa’adiyya, enforced tax levy of ₦50 million to be paid within one week to Gama Giwa community and nearby communities of Maradun LGA in Zamfara State.
Villagers said this comes on top of months of forced labour on his farms, where locals were compelled to work throughout the rainy season without payment. After completing the harvest, they expected relief, but instead, they now face what community members describe as another round of harsh economic pressure and intimidation.
Residents explain that the combination of unpaid labour and the newly imposed levy has pushed families into deeper fear and hardship. They say they feel trapped in a system where an armed bandit controls their livelihoods, mobility and even the outcome of their farming season.
Residents continue to pray and hope for a future where their safety, dignity and economic survival are no longer dictated by coercion.
