The Lagos State House of Assembly has started work on a new bill that will allow the state to set up its own railway corporation.
The bill, titled “Lagos State Railway Corporation Bill 2025,” aims to build a strong legal foundation for running an efficient rail transport system in the state.
Speaking at a public hearing on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa (represented by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mojisola Meranda), said the plan shows government’s commitment to improving transport and residents’ daily life.
According to him, the railway system will help reduce traffic on the roads, save travel time, and make movement across the state easier and safer.
He added that railway transport is an important part of modern infrastructure because it promotes trade, reduces costs, and supports economic growth.
