Two months after newly recruited health workers in Rivers State cried out over unpaid salaries, relief has finally come their way as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the payment of eight months’ salary arrears owed to the newly employed staff of the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board.
The affected workers were part of the 1,000 health personnel deployed across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
Announcing the development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Justina Jumbo, noted that the arrears will be settled alongside their October salaries.
Mrs Jumbo, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, disclosed this at the official launch of the Electronic Medical Records System in four pilot hospitals at the Kelson Harrison Hospital in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Dr Bright Ogbonda, said the introduction of the Electronic Medical Records System marks a major step towards quality and efficient healthcare delivery in the State.
