A U.S. Secret Service agent is facing an internal investigation after attempting to get his wife—a U.S. Air Force officer—onto a support flight accompanying President Donald Trump’s trip to Scotland.
Though the wife was briefed and escorted to Joint Base Andrews, officials caught wind of the unauthorized plan and removed her before takeoff.
President Trump, addressing the matter, called it “a weird deal” and stressed the potential security risks. “Wouldn’t you think it might be a little dangerous?” he remarked.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the probe, stating the agent had been warned in advance that such actions were against protocol. Fortunately, no protectees were onboard the support aircraft, and the presidential mission was not compromised.
This latest misstep adds to a growing list of disciplinary incidents within the agency, raising fresh concerns about oversight and protocol enforcement.
