"Back in 2016, she was my crush.
It all started during our SS3 days at Methodist Boys High School, Oron. I still remember those years like a half-faded dream. She wasn’t just anyone.
She was the Assistant School Prefect of Methodist Senior Science College, another of the three Methodist schools under the cathedral’s wings in Oron. The other was Mary Hanney Secondary School.
Every first Sunday of the month, all three schools would gather at the grand old Methodist Cathedral for worship. It was during one of those joint services that I saw her.
Dorothy. Graceful, confident, sharp. We exchanged contacts that day. I was in the dormitory then, living the typical high school boy life, but meeting her felt like something rare. Something different.
Fast forward to 2017, fate crossed our paths again, this time at the JAMB registration center. We recognized each other instantly. Smiles. Laughter. A flicker of what-could-be.
Then life picked up speed. Everyone got admitted into universities. We all scattered, chasing dreams in different directions. Time, as always, carried us forward.
Years later, someone brought her up in conversation. They asked, “Felix, you still keeping up with that crush of yours?”
I laughed. “No, not really.”

My heart sank.
