The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in the early hours of Sunday, rescued a man who had been trapped for nearly ten hours under rubble following the collapse of a three-story building in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement, identifying the victim as 27-year-old Aliyu Salisu, a citizen of the Niger Republic.
He was rushed to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding well.
According to the statement, the Command received a distress call at about 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, alerting them to the building collapse.
The Divisional Police Officer of Life Camp Division immediately mobilized a rescue team to the site, cordoned off the area, and commenced a coordinated search and rescue operation.
The operation involved officers from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), as well as personnel from Zeberced and Julius Berger construction companies, supported by multi-agency patrol and enforcement teams.
It added that at about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, rescue teams successfully pulled the victim from the rubble following an intense and delicate operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, was on the ground throughout the operation and commended the swift response and professionalism of all agencies involved.
The Command also urged residents to remain alert and to report emergencies or suspicious activities.
