The Esit Eket Private Citizens Media Group (EEPCMG), on behalf of the good people of Esit Eket Local Government Area, vehemently and unequivocally reject the so-called "Arise development project" of constructing public toilet facilities in our land by the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
We consider this project not only a slap but a deliberate provocation and a gross underestimation of the intelligence and aspirations of our people. At a time when other local government areas are benefiting from critical infrastructures, meaningful investments, and impactful development initiatives, Esit Eket is being offered toilets as its own "dividends of democracy." This is not just unacceptable, it is disgraceful.
Esit Eket is the toilet of AKS, do we know the stigma this will bring to our people, how we will become laughing stock in the state.If they lack ideas, and advice remains an advice.
So if the governor has ideas, he will reject such advice after all the BUCK stops on his table.
How can he be proud to execute a toilet project in one of the oil and gas producing local govt of a state.
Toilets that can be executed by a councilor or local government chairman.
Is like people that are working with the governor lacks ideas to share with the governor. From the information this is proposal from a commissioner representing Good people of Esit Eket.
Esit Eket is a proud, resource-rich, oil and gas-producing area with a long history of contributing significantly to the economic stability of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. It is, therefore, utterly demeaning that our reward for loyalty, peaceful conduct, and resource contribution are toilet facilities.
We ask Governor Umo Eno:
Where are the road projects?
Where are the schools, hospitals, and skill acquisition centers?
Where is the empowerment for our youths and women?
How about the re-vitalization of Akwa Palm industry he promised Esit Eket during his campaign?
What of the dualization of Eket- Esit Eket road ?
Is this how a responsible government reciprocates the contributions of a strategic Local Government Area like Esit Eket that stood still and supported the governor?
Is building toilet facilities in Esit Eket commensurate with the 9,549 votes Esit Eket overwhelmingly gave to Governor Umo Eno in the 2023 Governorship Elections?
Moreover, with the high level of hunger in Akwa Ibom State, where is the food Esit Eket people will eat so as to make use of the toilet facilities to be built by Governor Umo Eno?
We make it categorically clear that we do not want and will not accept this toilet project. It is a mockery of our people, our culture, and our collective sensibility.
We call on Governor Umo Eno, to immediately halt this ill-conceived project and come forward with serious, people-oriented, and impactful developmental projects in Esit Eket. Our people deserve more. We demand more. And we will not remain silent in the face of this outright humiliation and negligence of Esit Eket LGA by the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
Let it be known that Esit Eket is not a dumping ground for worthless or ill- conceived politically motivated gestures. We will resist, with every lawful means available to us, any attempt to reduce our Local Government Area to a laughingstock.
Enough is enough. Esit Eket deserves better.
