FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has responded to a rumor that Governor Siminalayi Fubara agreed not to run for a second term in 2027 as part of a peace deal. The rumor came after the recent reconciliation between Fubara, Wike, and members of Rivers House of Assembly, following a political crisis in Rivers State.
In a video shared by TVC, Wike said he does not owe anyone an explanation about how he and Fubara reconciled. He said the most important thing is that peace has returned to Rivers State, and people should focus on that instead of digging into the details of the agreement.
Wike said he is not the one contesting any election, so the question about Fubara’s second term should be directed to Fubara himself. However, he said Fubara has not made any public statement that he won’t contest for second term as governor.
In Wike’s words: “Did he (Fubara) tell you that? I am not the one going to run for election, so if he says that was the decision then he should be the one to tell you. What is my business? He has never spoken to you on that, you are the ones who are promoting disunity and making money for your stations”
