The Super Falcons of Nigeria kicked off their 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with an impressive 3-0 win against Tunisia on Sunday.
Nigeria had an impressive beginning as Asisat Oshoala headed in a remarkable cross from Omorinsola Babajide just four minutes into the match.
Justine Madugu's team dominated the pace of the game from start to finish, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie facing little pressure.
Five minutes before halftime, Deborah Abiodun nearly extended Nigeria's lead. She skillfully navigated through the Tunisian defense but was unable to get past the goalkeeper.
Babajide extended the lead to 2-0 with a skillful strike just before half-time. Shortly after, defender Ashleigh Plumptre found her goal disallowed due to a foul occurring in the build-up.
At the beginning of the second half, head coach Madugu substituted Oshoala, Abiodun, and Babajide with Chiwendu Ihezuo, Christy Ucheibe, and Esther Okoronkwo.
The Super Falcons maintained their control over the game, with Plumptre and Osinachi Ohale nearly increasing the lead.
Chiwendu Ihezuo secured the win by scoring a third goal just six minutes before the end of regulation time.
The team, crowned African champions nine times, is set to compete against Botswana in their upcoming group match on Wednesday.
