Nigeria Must Not Accept Venezuelan Prisoners – Shehu Sani Warns

Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the previous Assembly, has strongly opposed the United States' plan to deport Venezuelans to Nigeria.

According to reports, on Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed that the United States has been pressuring Nigeria and other African nations to take in deportees from Venezuela.

During an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today, the minister revealed that Nigeria might not be able to take in the prisoners.

In response, Shehu Sani stated on his official X account that the Nigerian government should not make room for these prisoners either presently or in the future.

He stated that while the U.S. can return Nigerian prisoners in the country to their homeland, it cannot do the same with Venezuelan nationals.

He stated, "It is acceptable for the US to repatriate Nigerian prisoners in its jails back to Nigeria."

"We do not wish to accommodate Venezuelan prisoners in our country, now or at any point in the future."
