JSS3 Student Allegedly Kills Teacher Following Cap Confiscation


A community in Benue State has been engulfed in shock and grief after a violent incident resulted in the death of a schoolteacher, allegedly caused by a 16-year-old student.

The incident that took place on Thursday in the Oju Local Government Area involved a Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student who allegedly attacked his teacher amid a disagreement.

The suspect, Friday Ogamde, is a student at UBE Oju Centre in the Oju region of Benue State.

A report by security analyst Zagozola Makama states that Ogamde confronted 35-year-old Mr. Oyibe Oyibe regarding a school cap that was confiscated in May 2025.

According to witnesses, the situation rapidly intensified and became physical. The student reportedly hit the teacher, causing him to collapse immediately.

Mr. Oyibe was taken urgently to Amara Hospital in Oju, where medical staff declared him deceased. His body has since been moved to the General Hospital in Oju for an autopsy.

The suspect has been confirmed arrested by authorities. The Benue State Police Command denounced the act and assured the public that a thorough investigation is in progress, promising that justice will be delivered.
