In a bold political move signaling further cracks within the All Progressives Congress (APC), a former senatorial aspirant in Ondo Central and prominent APC chieftain,a former adviser to USA president under the administration of President Barack Obama,he was also member of the presidential campaign council for Tinubu/shettima in 2023, Dr. Adeniran Oyebade, has officially declared his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the fast-rising coalition party gaining traction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Oyebade, who contested for the APC senatorial ticket in the 2023 elections,the senatorial coordinator for chief Okusola Oke campaign organization and stunt supporter of Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who is widely respected among grassroots political mobilizers in Ondo State, announced his decision on Tuesday during a consultative meeting with political associates, youth leaders, flashing back on how he spent his personal resources for Bola Tinubu led administration without any single benefits from his Government, he revealed that, Nigerians and Nigeria as a Nation must stand up, rise to take up the challenge.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Oyebade expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state of the nation under the current APC-led federal government, accusing the ruling party of failing to fulfill the promises made to Nigerians.the Government is leading below expectations, our people are tired and hungry, and this is the time to move, Dr Adeniran also expressed dissatisfaction on how he was humiliated from APC after investing hugely on the party, Retirated that, the party lacks coordination and excellent reward mode.
Sighting major factor for his movement to new coalition party, ADC as a result of the new role of his political leader Hon. Agboola Ajayi been assigned to take as the leader of the party in South western region as a motivator for his new political development.
He described the economic hardship, insecurity, and declining public trust in government as “evidence that the APC has lost its moral and political compass.”
He stated that Nigerians are bitterly suffering under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that the situation has only worsened since the beginning of the current administration. According to him, the party has completely disconnected from the people and no longer represents the ideals of good governance, justice, or accountability.
Dr. Oyebade emphasized that his defection was driven not by personal ambition, but by the urgent need to realign with a political movement that prioritizes the people’s welfare and national healing. He described the ADC and its expanding coalition structure as the most viable alternative platform for Nigerians seeking true change.
He noted that the ADC's ongoing coalition efforts, which have attracted several former governors, ministers, lawmakers, and civil society leaders, signal the beginning of a political rescue operation aimed at unseating the APC in 2027 and returning power to credible and people-focused leadership.
Speaking further, Dr. Oyebade pledged to mobilize his supporters, especially youth and professionals across Ondo State and the Southwest, to fully embrace the new movement. He also called on other progressive-minded leaders still within the APC and PDP to reject the politics of deception and join hands in building a formidable national alternative.
According to political observers, Dr. Oyebade’s switch to the ADC adds to the growing list of high-profile defections from the ruling party, particularly in the wake of recent mass meetings between ADC leaders and disgruntled politicians across the six geopolitical zones.
Insiders within the ADC coalition welcomed Dr. Oyebade’s endorsement, describing it as a strategic gain and a reflection of the coalition's widening influence, especially in the Southwest. They confirmed that more political heavyweights are in talks to follow suit.
The ADC-led coalition has been holding a series of closed-door engagements with former political office holders, youth wings, professional unions, and former presidential candidates, with strong indications that it will field a nationally accepted presidential flag bearer in 2027.
