In a shocking incident, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Merit Eleh, who faked her own kidnapping in a desperate attempt to repay a ₦3.6 million loan she borrowed from her brother — just to fund her bridal shower and hotel expenses during her March 2025 wedding. 😳🎉
🗓️ On July 21, police received a report of a supposed abduction in the Bonsaac area of Asaba.
🎯 Acting swiftly, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda tasked the anti-kidnapping unit to rescue the “victim.”
💥 The investigation led to the arrest of Alfred Elisha and Ugochukwu Adim, who quickly confessed the kidnap was staged in collaboration with the supposed victim.
📣 Merit later admitted to orchestrating the fake abduction to extort ransom from her family. She:
🔹 Collected ₦3 million in ransom
🔹 Paid her accomplices ₦500,000
🔹 Kept ₦2.5 million for herself to repay her debt
💬 “She used the money borrowed from her brother to sponsor her bridal shower and wedding hotel bills,” police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe revealed.
👮♂️ All suspects have now been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
Love may be sweet, but fraud is bitter — especially when it’s family money involved. 😬
